“Therapeutic riding in Heraklion, Crete”
Therapeutic Riding
The Riding Academy of Crete is the only riding centre on Crete that offers therapeutic riding and hippotherapy. We offer private sessions as well as programms for groups and special schools. We organise seminars for parents, teachers and anyone involved in people with disabilities. A great inspiration for Crete are the seminars hosted by Franklin Levinson (http://www.wayofthehorse.com/) who is a wise man with a great approach of both people and horses.
Therapeutic riding is an activity that uses the horse for cognital, emotional as well as social development of people with special needs. Therapeutic riding benefits the rider on various aspects as technics of education, physical exercise etc are applied.
Hipotherapy is a term used to descride the therapy of physical disorders and disabilities. It is a therapy applied from physiotherapists to cure or improve skeletic and kinetic disorders. In this cases the rider is benefited by the movement of the horse emphasising on the correct posture and balance.
Paraolympic Riding
The PARAOLYMPIC GAMES are equivalent the OLYMPIC GAMES, they take place at the same city and year just after the termination of the OLYMPICS.
In this cases the same technics of classic riding are applied to riders but they are accustomed to the disability that the rider carries.
At our academy we are very dedicated to people with disabilities and we offer offer coaching of riders of kinetic disabilities who train up to competition level. Our first rider entered the competition arenas as a rider in Class 2 of the International Equestrian Federation in 2010.
